Monthly Saké Review

Me

G Joy Saké by Monokawa

One of the most respected saké brewers
in North America, Momokawa – brews a premium saké – they title
simply, G Joy. It was a flavorful saké with a  fruity
sweetness that I quite enjoyed.

I had it served at an ideal cool temperature.

This saké was aged 10 months - clearly a craftsman saké and is about 18% alcohol content.

This is definitely a well crafted saké that I'm glad is the first to be reviewed, as it can easily set the bar for a good saké for me to rate further saké.

G Joy is a Junmai Ginjo Genshu.

  • Junmai means that this saké that has
only been brewed with water and rice – as well as koji – a “mold”
which allows for the brewing and alcohol production.

  • Ginjo means means the rice was polished
before being used to the point that there is less than 60% of the
    grain remaining.

  • Genshu means it was undiluted – this
    is pure saké.
The saké is available online from SakeOne.com for $20 for a 750ml. I highly recommend this saké as a first timer or even as an experienced drinker. Its very pleasant, affordable, and goes great with just about any meal that would pair with a white wine. I had mine with some seared and peppered ahi tuna steak, and citrus spiced couscous.
